The wheel size alone has nothing to do with your speedometer, which is what you meant instead of tach I assume. It depends on the tire you put on the wheel. Tell us the tire size you have now, and the tire size you are looking at putting on your new wheels, and then we can tell you if it will work or not for accurate speedometer readings. By changing the wheel size you will need to get the right tires to make it work. You will need to do a Plus 1 for a 17 or a plus 2 for a 18 inch wheel. Plus 1 means add 10mm to the current width, subtract 10% from the aspect ratio and add 1 inch to the wheel diameter. Plus 2 means add 20mm, subtract 20%, and add 2 ". This keeps the circumference very close to stock, which results in an accurate speedometer. However, it's not perfect and will show some discrepancies as the widths get wider. **more: 205/ 55-16 = 215/ 45-17 = 225/ 35/ 18 A 225/ 45-17 is also very close, as is a 215/ 40-18. Use the calculator below to try different tire sizes, you are looking for the smallest change from stock. |
